TENNANT Creek Darts hosted its annual Golden Nugget Tournament recently.

• The craps table at SLS was closed, although it was open later that morning on my return trip home. I booked an Uber from SLS to Downtown Las Vegas. I had the driver drop me off at the Golden Nugget. I had some small amount of freeplay from various properties to burn through. $50 from the Golden Nugget, $40 from the 4Queens, and $40 from Binions.

The tournament, running since 1989, was last year was renamed to the Darrell “Bear” Logue Memorial Golden Nugget Classic.

Despite the difficult year everyone has had with COVID-19, the turnout was amazing with 79 players converging on Tennant Creek for the weekend (59 men and 20 ladies).

They came from far and wide – nine locals, 37 players from elsewhere in the NT, 24 from Queensland, five from Western Australia and four from South Australia – many of them returning as well as many new faces.

We understand the huge commitment in travelling these big distances and are humbled by the support of all the people that travelled to our event.

The weekend kicked off on the Friday with players descending on the Tennant Creek Memorial Club to register for the events, then settle in with some refreshments before the players Calcutta started.

After their recent wins at the Alice Springs Open, four-time Golden Nugget winner Rob Modra (SA) and Amanda Loch (SA) attracted a lot of bidding.

There was also heavy bidding for five-time Golden Nugget winner Nancy Myers and two-time Golden Nugget winner Kyle “the original” Anderson.

The players turned up bright and early Saturday morning – with coffee available from the Always Coffee Time van, and breakfast provided by the Men’s Cricket Team who were fundraising for next year’s Imparja Cup.

The first event was the Pro-Am pairs which was a straight knockout event.

Jeremy Fagg and Ruth Harvey defeated Nancy Myers and Kevin Tilmouth in the final 4 legs to nil.

After the Pro-Am, it was on to the Men’s and Ladiess Pairs.

Nancy Myers and Maureen Homer battled through a close quarter final and semifinal before proving too strong in the final, defeating Judy Taylor and Maxine Arndt 6 legs to 2.

Rob Modra and Maurice Heta-Tohu defeated Jeremy Fagg and Skeeta Hayston 7 legs to 3 in the Men’s Final.

After a huge day of doubles, it was on to the singles, with all players vying to have their name etched on the trophy and win the iconic gold nugget as part of the winner’s prize.

Last year’s winner Nancy Myers went all the way to the final looking to defend her title, but ran into a clinical Amanda Loch, losing 6 legs to nil.

Amazingly, Amanda only lost one leg for the entire day.

Fresh from his Alice Springs Open victory the week before, South Australia’s Rob Modra cruised his way into the semi-finals, where he survived a last-leg decider against Laurie Loch, winning 6 legs to 5.

It was more of the same in the final against Kyle Anderson, with Modra clinching victory 7 legs to 6 with a 135 checkout.

This is Rob’s fifth nugget victory, with previous wins in 2011,2012,2014 and 2018.

Only Simon Whitlock has more nugget victories (six consecutive from 2002-2007).

The many players who attended for the first time, and the spirit, camaraderie and sportsmanship shown over the weekend by all players would have brought a huge smile to Bear’s face.

Golden Nugget Craps Tournament 2018 Predictions

The Golden Nugget Las Vegas will be holding its $50,000 Ride the Roll Craps Tournament which is set to take place September 27th through the 29th. This tournament offers craps players the chance to win some huge prizes.

The entry fee for the tournament is $100 and this fee includes a special room rate for participants. You will have the chance to win a share of $50,000 in cash, free slots play, or “Play Till You Lose” promo chips.

The event kicks off on Friday the 27th with registration being held from 5:00PM until 8:00PM. There will be ten drawings held in which you will have a chance to win those promo chips or free slots play.

Late registration will be held on Saturday the 28th and will be held from 8:00Am until 10:00AM. Tournament play will begin at 9:00AM.

Sunday the 29th will be an excitement filled day of tournament play with $100 Re-buy Round. All players advancing to the second round and Re-buy entrants will be entered into the WILDCARD drawings which will award spots into several rounds, including the final round.

All tournament participants will also be entered into a final drawing for $1,500, as well as 5 drawings for comp entries into the next tournament. The awards will follow the final round.

While the participants are in town for the tournament they also get to enjoy the other immunities Las Vegas has to offer.
